BAND CAMP STARTS JULY 23
My Dearest Students,
I can not thank you enough for the experience of working with each and every one of you. Throughout my education degree, one philosophy that my mentors and teachers and I never agreed upon was that you couldn't take your job personally. After three years with me, you are familiar enough with my own philosophies that you know that I take my job very personally. Music is personal. Education is personal. Together we overcome challenges, push ourselves when we do not think we can take it anymore, see each other at our silliest. I have been fortunate enough to see each and every one of you grow.
There have been a lot of goodbyes over the past weeks, a LOT of tears, and a lot of well wishes. I am not intending to drag that out as I update your website for the last time, but to reassure you once again about a few things.
I appreciate very much all of the warm wishes and thoughts you have shared with me over the past weeks. You all mean the world to me.
Winners never quit. You have come too far. How do you know what the outcome will be if you don't try to see that end result?
Don't cheat yourself of remarkable life experiences because of your stubborn nature.
Push yourself to excel. Coolness can be a negative factor. The greatest lives throughout history are remembered for persevering even when the path they chose (usually hard work or an unpopular decision) didn't make their friends laugh because it was cool.
Suprise yourself. Suprise others. Live it to the max, do it to the max. Apply these things to music, to homework, to relationships, to life.
Don't ever forget the day you learned to define your expectations. I was there. Every student went back on the field and did it again. Twice. And it was incredible.
Mr. Sneed is a remarkable teacher. He is a teacher I observe to learn from, a teacher I admire and aspire to be like. We have very similar philosophies and goals. I have faith in him and I trust him, completely. I have faith in you.
I am SO looking forward to seeing you guys under his direction. You are going to do incredible things.
Signing out from the HHS Bandroom and love always,
Ms. Bass
